"Hi" I have conformed.
My name is Jacob.
I am interested in Writing (Specifically science fiction, poetry, and prose)
I have a duality in liking both Science and Literature (seemingly the two opposites)
I love love love astronomy. I find HST, ROSAT, and COBE to be amazing devices that revolutionized our view of the universe.
I have split beliefs about the Big Bang "theory"
I am, indeed, a "Christian," or at least, I have Christian beliefs. (To add onto that to feed those who are curious: I do not claim to be apart of any huge organization, such as Christianity, because of their behavior in the world today)
The "Unprovable" encourages me to find a way to break off the "un" at the beginning of the word.
I love mysteries.
Hmm.... Oh! My favorite science book, as of now, is "The Origins of the Universe" written by (Insert Authors name here)

I could write a novel about myself, to be honest, but again, I'm not really egocentric enough to do so.
Very nice to meet you! Is "Why does E=MC^2?" a really good book?
I've been trying to find another good science book.

I'm sort of clueless about certain LHC experiments and such; however, I hope that through this forum I will learn more. All I know so far is that the LHC is a particle accelerator that attempts to find numerous things about particle physics (Not just the "God Particle")

about me.....When I was younger I knew everything.....but the older I get the more I realise how little I know.

Its a sort of intellectual freedom......when you realise that most of what you have learnt is rubbish, you are free to contemplate whatever forms of infinity you can imagine!

Answering your question, I am from United States, Kentucky. Born and raised here, with the exception of one year in Florida.
I'm not very old, actually. I'm only seventeen years old, but that only gives me more time and space to expand my horizon.

I'm happy that everybody on here is very friendly and willing to greet a newcomer. Although I am very cynical, I enjoy meeting people (specifically those who appeal to my "mind's eye")

I really like that philosophical view, and I agree with it! You know everything at a younger age; it is when you turn older that you begin to actually know nothing after all!

A Little Learning

A Little Learning

There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, [These three lines set up the meaning of the poem. The meaning seems to convey that learning is not something you only do in small portions, rather, if you must learn, you must try to go all the way and catch that vista of opportunities.]
And drinking largely sobers us again. [This is building onto the thesis that learning must be taken seriously and should be consumed largely and not in small portions, otherwise the broad overlay of things will become like "poison" to the mind]
Fired at first sight with what the Muse imparts,
In fearless youth we tempt the heights of Arts ;
While from the bounded level of our mind
Short views we take, nor see the lengths behind, [Amazing. This is, yet again, building onto the idea that "short views" (that being learning very little) make us see very little]
But, more advanced, behold with strange surprise
New distant scenes of endless science rise ! [But if you dig deeper and begin to learn more and grasp knowledge, new "scenes" or new mysteries are unraveled]
So pleased at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o’er the vales, and seem to tread the sky ;

But those attained, we tremble to survey
The growing labours of the lengthened way ;
The increasing prospect tires our wandering eyes,
Hill peep o’er hills, and Alps on Alps arise ! [Great poem about the meaning of grasping true knowledge for what it's worth instead of merely getting the small portion of it... Go for the buffet and fruits of knowledge!]

Forgive me for the dissection of the poem. I am a fan of literature (and science!) and I attempt to dissect any literature for practice purposes and because I simply like discussing the meaning of art.
That is just how I feel about the particular poem. I like the meaning I feel from it, but art is very flexible, and this could be taken several ways.

I feel, and this is the boundary line between Knowledge and Personality, that no matter how smart you are or how wise, if the mushy fabrics of the brain are soft and rotten in the area that makes you a nice and giving person, then you are not smart at all, rather, the biggest loser there is, might I say. I believe that arrogance can cover up one's aptitude of knowledge. So I encourage you-- although I can already tell you would not need this-- to stay charming and delightful to all others.

Take it from an ignorant seventeen year old who is only on the first few pages in the world's big book.

There is really no such thing as being too nice: but don't let being too nice make you ignorant of people's capability of using your gracious behaviour as an advantage.
As long as you are nice, I feel that things will come back around and give you a big reward!

I forgot to answer your question from earlier: How I like the forum.
Well, to answer that in short... This forum involved Science... and it has nice people.
Those two mixtures = haha
I cannot talk about much on here though! I am not very bright and feel I can expand even more... I hope this forum will help me do so.
