Five People Killed By Their Own Inventions

Post by chelle » Sat May 07, 2011 9:17 am

I came across this cool topic on a blog called neatorama,

here's the link: http://www.neatorama.com/2008/04/28/fiv ... nventions/

... and 5 more: http://www.neatorama.com/2011/05/06/fiv ... creations/

"Inventing is a great way to leave your mark on the world, but in some unfortunate circumstances, inventions have been known to leave the mark of death ..."

I thought that it would be a fine addition to this section of the forum

cheers,

chelle

The one invention that caused the most deaths was ... the wheel.
Thousands people die under them every year.

haha, true it is a ring, but one can also say wheel.
The English word wheel comes from the Old English word hweol, hweogol, from Proto-Germanic *hwehwlan, *hwegwlan, from Proto-Indo-European *kwekwlo-, an extended form of the root *kwel- "to revolve, move around". Cognates within Indo-European include Greek κύκλος kýklos, "wheel", Sanskrit chakra, Old Church Slavonic kolo, all meaning "circle" or "wheel",

and
wheel (hwl, wl)
n.
1. A solid disk or a rigid circular ring connected by spokes to a hub, designed to turn around an axle passed through the center.
2. Something resembling such a disk or ring in appearance or movement or having a wheel as its principal part or characteristic,

As always Mr. K you only read what you want to read, keeping a narrow minded approach to things. As such you should also open yourself and see the real possible dangers of our beloved circular accelerator.

Edit: btw you also might want to check out what a metaphor is.
