is a sociologist welcome here?

Post by iulikravitz » Fri Nov 19, 2010 2:14 pm

Hi,

I'm a sociologist, Italian, but working in Uk, alongside my actual work I am also personally interested in the links between major discoveries at Cern, society's perceptions and philosophy.

I wish you all a good day and weekend and hope to be welcome here.

Giuliana,

As a sociologist you will be a valuable (and most welcome) addition to the group for you will have some meaningful insights as to why society’s perceptions of CERN and the LHC are so “different” from those of the scientist. As a physicist (retired) I frequently do not understand how society (which I have come to think of as “the unwashed masses”) reaches their conclusions from the information available.

Do not sit quietly on the sidelines but please enter some of the more “interesting” discussions …

Hi Giuliana,

Welcome.

Your expertise may be valuable to understand why so many non-physicists are interested in the LHC.

Curiosity or something more?
