Re: possible answer for the mass of the new LHC particle
The chance to have an integer multiple of a heavy standard model particle, within the experimental uncertainties, is close to 1. If you think you have something interesting publish it, and see what happens. Here is my prediction: It won't even get through the arXiv crackpot filtering process, which ...

Re: Other examples of bad luck?
The 2008 magnet incident brought it to a halt for a year, and lowered its energy for further 6 years. The magnets of one ring segment needed more training than expected to reach 6.5 TeV, leading to some delay in 2015 (but hard to quantify as it happened together with other activities). If everything...

Re: where can I report users?
In the lower right corner in every post there is a "report post" icon. I reported posts of this user/spambot already, I guess it will be gone as soon as the admin checks the forum.

Re: new particle with 750 GeV
Do the 300 new articles which will explain the new particle all predict the mass and so on? No, but all those theories still allow to calculate everything in the standard model, they are checked against muon and electron g-2 measurements and so on. What does your approach predict for g-2 measuremen...

Re: What are the current records for LHC fills?
Now we are at nearly 33 hours. 4:35 -> at least 13:21 (+1d). ATLAS/CMS luminosity dropped to 1350 Hz/µb (from initially 3500), LHCb luminosity starts to drop as well (175 -> 163). 260/pb and 21/pb integrated luminosity respectively. Long beyond the point where refilling would be better for luminosit...

Re: new particle with 750 GeV
As long as it does not make any quantitative prediction, it is completely useless. It describes the dark energie, the dark matter the 3 generations and predicts a new particle
which i think that it is the new particle which was found on LHC.

Re: new particle with 750 GeV
"published". When do we see it in a peer-reviewed journal? Or at least on arXiv?
Where is any quantitative prediction? Or at least a calculation of values that got measured already?
And why the heck do you "cite" pop-science articles?

Re: 2016 operation
I believe they are slowly building up to full intensity. This is what they usually do after a shutdown. They incrementally increase the number of bunches they are running with, run like that for a while, then they all sit down and check whether they are happy with how its gone and that they're happ...

Re: What are the current records for LHC fills?
Nearly 200/pb so far in 21 hours. Would be interesting to see what happens after 30+ hours. Lumi dropped from ~35% to ~18% design value so far.

Not a joke, unfortunately, but the LHC is back running again.

Re: Is there machine development during beam commissioning?
Yes they were.
Pileup was already significant. The low luminosity was mainly from the low number of colliding bunches (2 and 8), and LHCb and ALICE needed lumi leveling.

Re: Is there machine development during beam commissioning?
Update: We had the first stable beams over the weekend, a bit earlier than planned. First 3, then 12 bunches, so the luminosity was tiny (0.05% to 0.35% of the design value), but it also means scrubbing starts today, 3 days earlier than planned.

Re: Is there machine development during beam commissioning?
Do you work on the LHC by any chance? Not on the machine, but for one of the experiments. Since they're aiming to run at 40cm this year, I'd expect them to match last year's performance within two-three weeks; reaching twice the performance after six weeks. This should then give a performance avera...

Re: Is there machine development during beam commissioning?
It is even a step earlier than that. Commissioning brings the machine back to a point where beams with a low number of bunches can safely be injected, ramped up, squeezed and collided. Over the winter shutdowns, various components could have failed, or changed their parameters slightly. The machine ...

Re: LHC logbook access
The request page linked above still exists, they can probably help you there.
Does your CERN lightweight account still work?
I can access the logbook, but I have a full CERN account.
