Re: LHC seminar: Search for new physics with b→sℓ+ℓ− decays

Since I can see the draft of the LHCb public page, I can confirm that the result in the two unblinded q^2 bins will be shown in this seminar.

I'm fairly sure the error bars have gotten bigger since last I saw them, but that's what internal reviews are for...

Re: LHC seminar: Search for new physics with b→sℓ+ℓ− decays

Hmm, the paper is still in circulation. The first comment deadline is Friday. I'm surprised this seminar is scheduled so soon after that. Obviously I won't spoil it, but there's a practice talk on Thursday so I'll know then if the results are actually on the slides or not.

Quoting the relevant parts of today's morning meeting slides (which is most of it...) Facts: Two quenches while ramping down RB.A12 from 6 kA with -10 A/s • 10 June 2016 @ 547 A • 3 Aug 2016 @ 295 A The observations could be explained with a model in which an inter-turn short is included. • The shor...

Weekly summary of LHC operations

Hi everyone! I hope you don't see this as self-promotion. I think most people here would be interested in this. Since the beginning of May, I have been writing down short summaries of each week at the LHC and posting them on the /r/LHC subreddit. They can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lhc/...

Re: 2014 machine commissioning and 2015 start up

We had (non-accidental) collisions today at 450 GeV :D

Shame we at LHCb couldn't complete the SMOG test (SPS is down, have to wait until tomorrow) but we got some time-alignment data, which is nice.

"Lay" is something you do to an object, "lie" is something a subject does to itself. You can lay down a carpet and lie down on it afterwards.

Re: 2014 machine commissioning and 2015 start up

Some unfortunate news from the LHC morning meetings today and yesterday (available here https://indico.cern.ch/event/385865/). There is an "Unidentified Lying Object" (ULO) of ~4 mm height and ~14 mm width sitting somewhere in one of the beam pipes. This could be large enough a problem to require an...
