Re: Creating "Sparks"
Interesting comments, but I cannot help to say: most of them are not exactly referring to the questions asked, but they sure contain backgroundknowledge which helps to make your own thoughts about the questions. The most important answer is the one about the conservation of energy, combined with th...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Hello everybody  I've been asking my question at Dr. David P. Stern autor of the website: Educational Web Sites on Astronomy, Physics, Spaceflight and the Earth's Magnetism ( http://www.phy6.org/ ), and he has given me a lot of answers, perhaps some of you might be interested. Here's a report ...

Re: SBU Professor, Puts “Doomsday” Scenarios in Perspective
There is a slight difference between the following two sentences: 1. I wonder whether LHC is going to create magnetic monopoples and whether they may be dangerous. 2. LHC will create a magnetic monopole and it will kill us all! That's my way of distinguishing curious people from panic spreaders. An...

Re: SBU Professor, Puts “Doomsday” Scenarios in Perspective
Too bad we know this won't stop MagneticTrap from trying to create panic. I have little bit of trouble with people often accusing others of wanting to create "Panic". I find that to be a bit of an intimidation towards people who want to ask questions. And if you even say something could hap...

Re: Review of not considered risks (Energia Incognita)
Not to be paranoid or anything, but are you 100% sure an airplane will not crash into your house this or any following night? As opposed to wild theories about LHC, there is lots of evidence that airplanes can be very deadly and can crash into houses... Check this out, it's in dutch but I think it'...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Hello, I've been discussing this "sparks" thing somewhere else after that "energy inconita" post and got an aswer to this old question of the difference between the LHC-beam an Cosmic ray particles: Maybe think of a hose nozzle - it can either be a tight beam (LHC), or a spray (Cosmic). This is the ...

Re: Review of not considered risks (Energia Incognita)
If you honestly believe that then you have my deepest sympathy. No need to sympathise with me, I believe that we humans are the smartest in the universe, and that things won't get this far, sooner or later wisdom will arise and we'll find a way to pass by the issues that we don't understand at this...

Re: Review of not considered risks (Energia Incognita)
Well Stephen with that confession, I guess I will just have to label you a luddite then. haha, I never heard of that "term" I just checked the dictionary and as it turns out: Luddite: a member of any of the bands of English workers who destroyed machinery, esp. in cotton and woolen mills, that they...

Re: Review of not considered risks (Energia Incognita)
Not to be paranoid or anything, but can someone read and disprove these claims? Look this experiment is a race that we are going to win, ask any pilot mh I mean particle scientist if it's safe, and he or she will say a full 100% yes, no risk. If there is anything that might pop up it would be like ...

Review of not considered risks (Energia Incognita)
Hi,
I dunno if anyone is still interested in questioning risk ...
Anyway I thought that this article was interesting, the guy brings up some of the points that I also mentioned, and thought were sensible, check it out:

cheers,
chelle

Re: Creating "Sparks"
An interesting update on Cosmic Rays: NASA's Fermi Closes on Source of Cosmic Rays Young supernova remnants seem to possess both stronger magnetic fields and the highest-energy cosmic rays. Stronger fields can keep the highest-energy particles in the remnant’s shock wave long enough to speed them to...

This link might be helpful: Group Velocity (Wiki) I can give a more mathematical explanation if you want, but I'll have to dig my notes out :) No need to dig, I 've just checked that link and it's indeed what I was thinking about, and after digging myself I ended up at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
also the wiki-page for Ultra-high energy cosmic rays doesn't state any process which would violate the theory of conservation of mass + energy and the general theory of relativity. Taken both of them a particle cannot contain more energy than implied by its mass (rest-mass + relativistic-mass) and ...

That might work. B&B creator, Mike Judge, has knowledge in high energy physics. Haha, you're right, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Judge Born: Michael Craig Judge Education: Bachelor of Science in physics, University of California, San Diego DO NOT DISS BRIAN Who says I'm dissing Brian, Butthead...
