Re: The CERN safety study

you know what, your right, congratulations. The oh my god particle and such were indeed discovered in the air and websites all around the world clearly state that 100% of cosmic rays break down in the atmosphere alone and non make it thro. same goes for the moon, aye yeah indeed 4.4 billion years st...

Re: The CERN safety study

in its simplest form most astro websites: http://www.physics.ox.ac.uk/documents/PUS/leaflets/leaflet3.htm Note that 99% of sites state that *most* change into secondary but non say all do, because sometimes ofc they can get thro and interact with us on the ground directly. Hence why companies are lo...

Re: The CERN safety study

... what about the particle showers upto 10^20 ev we look at every single day hmm? These are very, very rare perhaps 1 per year per km^2. They might be a local chain-reaction or some other event, ok this is just some fantasy of mine, but fact is we don't know a lot about this, and there is a signif...

Re: The CERN safety study

If only this were the end of all these stupid discussions... I think dismissing peoples' concerns as stupid is a little arrogant. I was interested in the link kindly provided by Xymox to the LSAG report. Finally, access to a study that attempts to quantify the estimated number of collisions both in...

A nice little animation of "collapsing separation bumps" that is part of the beam physics process:

Dr Eric Johnson

As there as SOOOO many threads crossing different area's making it impossible to hold all the info in one area ill post this here as its the thread pretty much everyone dives into. So here is a nice article regarding that paper from the lawyer dude Dr Eric Johnson. Enjoy: http://www.scientificbloggi...

Re: Mental illness

This whole "LHC is going to destroy the world" hysteria definitely made normal people to do their own research regarding this issue. Along the way, most gained some physics knowledge they wouldn't otherwise known. However, it would still be a lot better if the media didn't make a huge deal out of i...

Re: Let's go hump hunting!

It would definitely help to know what was already ruled out. And maybe also how strong the source has to be. Is there e.g. chance that it's caused by something on surface? I can see LHC sits under some quite inhabited areas. Indeed there are alot of Industrial units and overhead electrical pylons t...

Re: Anti LHC, already proven wrong?

I also wonder if the "anti-LHC" people will take their share of responsibility because the damage they did by their statements is in fact much bigger. As far as I know, at least one person commited suicide based on their statements and there is other damage caused by them. After awhile I personally...

Re: Anti LHC, already proven wrong?

well this "zero risk" thing all came because well in physics nothing is zero, but because the anti-lhc people say ahh there is a risk then, they went down the line the the chance is closer to zero than risk.

I don't blame them tbh.
