New LHC Results Hint At New Physics, But Are We Crying Wolf?
New (p)article … and the view of an advocate vs a realist: A few weeks ago, famed physicist (and supersymmetry-advocate) John Ellis asked the question, "Where is Particle Physics going?" Unless experiments can generate new, unexpected results, the answer is likely to be "nowhere new; nowhere good" f...

US successfully tests new nuclear gravity bom
Just a reminder that nuclear science also has its darkside.
… the US National Nuclear Security Administration announced the successful field test of the modernized gravity nuclear bomb in Nevada.

Yep, double-post, this one may be removed, my bad, I overlooked Draph's entry.mfb wrote:And that forum has a thread already. Posted nearly a week earlier than this thread in the wrong forum.dukwon wrote:This thread should be in viewforum.php?f=19

Beter would be the US has a new senator, can be the senator of NY.mfb wrote:"US gets a new leader" if New York gets one.
Sure now I'm nitpicking.

Re: The Large Hadron Collider Just Got a Crucial Upgrade
If New York gets a new major, do you write "the US got a new president"? That's a bad example, because a mayor and a president are different words, an upgrade can happen for both the accelerator and the detector. See it like this, if NY get's at new skyscraper, you could write "the US gets a new sk...

Re: The Large Hadron Collider Just Got a Crucial Upgrade
This is not the Large Hadron Collider. It is the CMS experiment, … I don't see the problem, LHC is the general term for the project (for the public) of which CMS is a part of. Sure, if you want to nitpick … I guess that's what you have to do to keep yourself busy when there is no longer anything to...

Re: Precision electroweak physics by ATLAS
Can you just go somewhere else if you don't want to contribute anything? Uh, you made your contribution, I expressed an opinion, isn't that how this thing works, chatting about science … anyone can join in. BTW I can understand that refining the measurement is an achievement, but on a scientific le...

Re: Precision electroweak physics by ATLAS
The W electroweak gauge boson was discovered in 1983 at the CERN SPS collider. Although the properties of the W boson have been studied for more than 30 years, precise measurement of its mass remains a major challenge. So now over more than 30 years of doing 'research' they came up with these resul...

Re: TED - How we explore unanswered questions in physics
This is not "particles and cosmic rays". The introduction is about the attempts to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity, and the bump that appeared in 2015 could have been a graviton - a first experimental hint how to combine those two. That wouldn't have been just another particle, it wo...
