Re: Exposure to Vacuum

Nice :)

I'm always suprised when in movies like Titan A.E. or H2G2 they spend a few seconds in space without dying... This explains that.

Re: What Religious belief are you?

Can anyone tell me how to prove religion using this method? Here is a glass of water. Here is another glass of water. Both glasses of water are treated exactly the same, EXCEPT I ask a priest to wave his hands/utter some words/say a prayer as he deems appropriate. This glass of water is now holy wa...

Re: What Religious belief are you?

Well we're arguing about basic definitions here. To me 'science' is the workings of the universe, whether we study it, understand it, ignore it or whatever it's always there. I guess to most people science is the study of the workings of the universe, to me it *is* the workings of the universe (unl...

I generally agree with you on all of what you have said, except the "science has always been there."... Science is not the universe, science is a human construct, a set of methods to help us understanding the universe! Well we're arguing about basic definitions here. To me 'science' is the workings...

I come here every day and I haven't a single clue of the reason why there's been an argument...

Either there isn't any good reason, or I must be stupid...

Re: What Religious belief are you?

Trust and faith remain different...

I can trust a person I know very well... If someone says to me "there's a big voice in the sky telling you to kill yourself", I'll need faith to do it..

Re: What Religious belief are you?

They are, of course, entitled to believe anything they wish to believe. They are NOT entitled to attempt to force others (children for instance) to agree with them. Sadly I can't recall many examples of people not trying to force others to agree with them... If more was done against such people (th...

Re: What Religious belief are you?

Well it's difficult to compare... On the one hand you have these Arabic (for example) scientists, who did a lot of revolutionary work, and lived in a period and place deeply influenced by religion... But that's very different from today's "intelligent designers" who intend to "prove" creationism wit...

Re: What Religious belief are you?

Sure they did some research (thanks for the link!), but almost nothing compared to what had been done before in the Antique, was being done in the Arabic world, and was to be done afterwards (Renaissance, Enlightenment etc.)

Re: What Religious belief are you?

let's not forget that numerous medieval monasteries were centers of science at that time and we'd not be where we are now without them. Hm, from what I know they merely copied old books... Of course this is extremely important as we would have lost large amount of knowledge from the antique if they...

Re: What Religious belief are you?

I just remembered this famous quote by R.P Feynman: I had a conversation about flying saucers some years ago with laymen. You see, because I'm scientific they think I know all about flying saucers! So, I said, I don't think there are flying saucers. My antagonist said. Is it impossible that there ar...
