Re: 2018 Operation

2319b fill at the moment. There is a 2460b step before 2556b beams. Looks like they're just doing 1 fill per step now. LHCb is finally getting at least 400 Hz/μb. Loss spikes around 16L2 are dramatically reduced in both beams.

Re: 2018 Operation

The threshold of 1200 bunches, which is considered significant in terms of data taking, was expected to be reached around 11 May, but it was already reached on 28 April. A revised 2018 LHC schedule, which takes into account the faster than anticipated commissioning, has been approved and published,...

Re: 2018 Operation

16L2 news: a combination of a bump and controlling the corrector current have dramatically reduced the loss spikes at 16L2 for B2. They are currently doing the same for B1, but it will only be effective until halfway through the squeeze. B2 is also behaving weirdly: a larger satellite population, de...

Re: 2018 Operation

I don't quite see how they can go to 2556 bunches if the max luminosity is limited to 2.0\nb/s.
There are more ways to control luminosity than number of colliding bunches. All IPs have routinely used levelling since last year.

Re: 2018 Operation

There's a new lumi plot interface on the LPC website:

Re: 2018 Operation

Good news: the intensity ramp is about 7–10 days ahead of schedule, although some of that extra time may be spent on extra MDs. Bad news: the problem at 16L2 has not gone away, and seems to be identical to last year. It was responsible for 5 dumps during the scrubbing run yesterday. As a reminder: 1...

Re: 2018 Operation

We've had 2 fills with 339b. Scrubbing all of today until tomorrow morning. Then a third 339b fill with 48 bpi. Might switch to 600b Wednesday afternoon.

Re: 2018 Operation

We've had 3 fills with 75b, where the third was with BCMS beams. I believe the next step will be 300b.
Currently scrubbing with 2605b. More scrubbing planned on Monday.

Re: Meanwhile, in Japan...

Hm, no, while the beam currents are higher than the LHC by a factor of ~5, the LHC still has 3 orders of magnitude more energy per particle. Maybe they just mean luminosity.

Re: Meanwhile, in Japan...

Stored energy in the ring, perhaps? It's certainly the highest-luminosity collider (800 kHz/µb)

Meanwhile, in Japan...

There will be a livestream starting Friday 12:00 (Japanese time) for the first collisions of SuperKEKB https://www.kek.jp/en/newsroom/2018/04/12/1300/ If you want to watch some monitoring plots, there are some here: http://www-linac.kek.jp/skekb/snapshot/dailysnap.html http://www-linac.kek.jp/skekb/...
