Re: Improved performance after MD and TS?

I don't have any inside info and the planning meetings are restricted access now, but I understand that the plan is to keep stepping up bunches until they reach about 1380 using 50ns. There has not been much info about how all the MD tests will affect that plan. It was noticed that they tried out hi...

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

There is an excellent new page with data on all the fills

https://lhc-statistics.web.cern.ch/LHC-Statistics/

Use the "Fill Summaries" tab to get all this years fills.

(comparing with my notes I think that 1745 and 1715 are missing)

Re: Newbie: Lumi difference between Atlas and CMS

It looked like CMS were also tuning theirs up a little. Obviously its all being done very scientifically :)

Re: Newbie: Lumi difference between Atlas and CMS

The luminosities of ATLAS and CMS seem to be slowly getting closer. Now they are only about 5% different.

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

With 768 bunches peak luminosity is now over 900/ub/s in ATLAS and 830/ub/s in CMS. The next step should take them beyond the 1000/ub/s target luminosity wanted for this year, but that will probably be after the next technical stop. Present scheme has 700 colliding bunches. This will be doubled if t...

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

I was watching closely and it reached 737 for ATLAS and 660 for CMS, whichever is correct its a nice step up.

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

The 624 bunch filling scheme looks much more favourable for ATLAS and CMS with 598 collisions per turn vs only 424 in the 480 bunch scheme. Based on the 535/μb/s record from yesterday this implies a possible 535*598/424 = 750/μb/s

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

Looks like they got the 72 bunch injection right this time. They will probably want to try it at 480 bunches before going up to 624 (?) bunches.

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

I was hoping for 500/ub/s easily with 480. Intensity could be higher. Perhaps the next fill will be better.

Going up in 144 bunch steps is good.

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

yes! 380/ub/s for ATLAS with 336 bunches and a good long run now in progress

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

So have they dediced to run the rest of the year at 50ns? Also does any know know how sucsesfull they were at cleaing the beam pipes during the scrubing run? They did a lot less scrubbing than I expected but now they are doing a physics run with 228 bunches at 50ns. This could be just a test to obs...

Using the converse analysis I am now setting up my car to search for the Higgs. I expect to find it by this afternoon.

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

The technical stop ends Thursday morning. They should start the scrubbing runs but a few days ago it was not clear if the injectors were ready. This may have been answered at the LMC meeting this afternoon but these meetings are not public anymore :( Perhaps a kind insider could fill us in. If they ...
