Re: Don't Look up (Spoiler alert!)
There are plenty better places to go looking for the doom of mankind #globalwarming Maybe that's why the press likes to hype up scare stories about things like the LHC, to distract from the real issues.

Re: Don't Look up (Spoiler alert!)
I don't know about this one but films about the destruction or potential destruction of earth are usually BS when it comes to the science.

Re: Mini Black Holes
I'm more for thinking that there's some sort of error in our understanding of physics. Both dark matter and dark energy seem like fudges to make our existing equations work. Seems much more likely that the exist equations are wrong. One reason for suggesting this is that we seem to have made so litt...

Re: Cooling of last sector started! (About quench training)
Thanks for the info. If I recall the 2008 incident was caused by substandard welding on the electrical interconnects and also inadequate pressure release on the helium containment, which blew at least one magnet of it's mounts.

Re: H- ions in the Linac 4: why this is so clever
That is startlingly elegant ! Instead of changing the polarity of the magnet, you change the polarity of the beam. And all you need is a very thin piece of carbon foil (I calculated 1 um from the article): https://accelconf.web.cern.ch/IPAC10/papers/thpeb030.pdf This is the very definition of geniu...

Re: So how’s everyone holding up because of the Coronavirus
The scientist I referred to at the end, wasn't a scientist from the 'incrowd' the minister followed a scientist with a political background. That's why I wrote second last paragraph 'top' scientists. I think you put your finger on the problem here. Politicians like to pick scientists who say the so...
