2012 Events Discussion

Post by Xymox » Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:48 pm

Hi,
Could you please add a new "Announcements"
named: "2012 Events Discussion"
So we can start adding our comments for this year?

rudolfst
Yes I can.

Should be a fun year with a nice high collision energy.

We are beginning to see more and more green on the Cryogenics page.

But when I look on the page with the "Cooldown status", I have noticed that in Point 4 the magnets for the RF cavities are still at room temperature (300K).

Does anybody know why they haven't started yet to cool them down?

Hi Rudolfist, my guess would be that they are still weeks away from beam and the RF cavities cool relatively quickly. Right now they are doing current testing on the magnets in the green sectors.

And today we see them starting to fill and chill the RF at L4.

I just looked at the cryo page, and at the moment it's all green.

Thats the best way to put it DC.

Or even shorter:

It's cool !!!

Whoo hoo ! Page 1 reports - "Technical Stop finished - HW commissioning on-going"

Collider mode is now - "Machine Checkout: No Beam"

but most likely only ramping magnets without beam or why is there no beam intensity visible?
Would make sence to try the magnets first without beam evenso the unit TeV would be missleading, probably they only mean the magnetstrength the later have to use for the mentioned beamenergy (TeV).

Definitely no beam in the machine, page 1 clearly says so.

"Saturday 10th Mar 10:30 Beam to TI8 downstream TED."

Looks like they are not far from a circular beam now again.
