Strange Norwegian blue spirals
Strange Norwegian blue spirals
Some strange atmospheric optics were at work over Norway at 8:45am
These photos are NOT photoshop altered..
But no... Its not what you think... While not confirmed these pics all show a rocket launch, that apparently exploded WAY up in the atmosphere, almost space in fact..
The ending result was somehow wickedly distorted way up in the atmosphere where light was already present before dawn causing a truly stunning display of the dreaded Norwegian blue spirals
Like in the Monty Python Parrot sketch. It was a Norwegian Blue..

There have been some media reports this was somehow caused my the LHC... This is laughable. BUT as this was a pretty amazing display of weirdness I could understand the concern...
Just for reference,, there was not even beams in the LHC anywhere near these times, the elog book confirms this..

Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
are you sure its not a fake?
It looks too symetric and with too much contrast.

Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted with large ones either by Albert Einstein.
Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
This was most likely the result of a failed Russian ICBM, launched from a submarine in the White Sea. Of course they're not admitting to it...
Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
Once you get over the initial concern, it's pretty cool. It must have been pretty scary for the people watching it.

And this; http://features.csmonitor.com/globalnew ... e-mystery/ finally explains why the small spiral is blue, sunlight scattering off tiny saphires.
Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
Its such a shame that this had a reasonable explanation.....
Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
I appreciate the fact that even a failure can be beautiful.

Re: Strange Norwegian blue spirals
I long for something like this to happen, which has no reasonable explanation......but people keep explaining things.....dammit!
