Portal changes

Post by Xymox » Mon Apr 28, 2014 12:46 am

For the 2014 startup I am looking to clean up and add to the Portal links.

I have done a little changing already under the LHC section.

Im interested in any changes anyone has. New links you would like.

CERN is a big user of my site, I am very interested in helping everybody at CERN so any input CERN people have and any links you would like would be very cool to impliment

Post them below, send me a PM or email me at my public email address public2@xymox1.com

Hi there, very pleased to see the beam setup appear! Looking forwards to watching the progress at 13 TeV.

But I wanted to say - the 'Statistics' link on the left doesn't work any more - page only accessible from within CERN....

WHY is there now, Aug 2015, no semi-real-time comment or commentary in this Forum on CERN operations ? Nothing from any knowledgeable insider on LHC Daily Meetings, cameras now hidden behind logins, nothing from the experiments, no occasional roving video, nothing for modestly knowledgeable outsiders. Why is there LHC-irrelevant material on this Forum ? NASA media outreach has shown the way and enthused millions of young american physicists; why has neither CERN nor ESA nor ITER learned what is possible in Europe ? TBD ??

A lot of that is because this isn't an official CERN forum, we get no official input from them.

Actually.. Its my fault.

I sorta drifted away. I got crazy busy with work for the last 2 years. No kidding, up until 2 weeks ago i had not had a day off in 2 years. On top of that I was working 15 hrs a day. Every day. So pretty much all my hobbies and fun pursuits got sidelined. Miss Charm got married. A number of the original people kinda drifted off on different things as well. Im sure I speak for all of us when I say I have been watching and enjoying all the stunning physics the LHC is doing right this minute.

There have been some awesome dedicated people that have stayed true and kept things going here. DCWhitworth has been there. From day one. My hats off to all of you that have been here and kept things on track.

I will go thru and clean things up and if you guys want to do anything at all with the forum, just ask.

Send me PM's

Dunno if she has, Facebook says otherwise. She's heavily engaged though :)

Hey, its still a very useful resource that I check out most days - so don't knock yourself out if you are busy with other stuff (I know how that goes).

NEW UPDATE..

I updated a extension that deals with images. Images were having issues if you tried to upload and embed a image.

I think I fixed that with a update to the extension PHP Media embed..

I also added a new and serious spam blocking extension. We now use the Stop Forum Spam system for registering and posting. It adds a bit of delay as a post is checked. BUT its VERY effective against spammers.
