check out these articles about the RHIC

http://tehrantimes.com/science/114222-c ... n-doomsday

here we go again, another doom prediction by self proclaimed experts but what do you think?, does the safety report need an update?

also glad to see common sense in this one
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/02/14 ... r_at_rhic/

also this last one explains what a strangelet could do to earth
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/lo ... ns-2823710

I even commented on the first one

models have indicated that strangelets are only stable or long-lived at low temperatures and are bound at low energies (in the range of 1–10 MeV), while the collisions in the RHIC release energies of up to 100 GeV. Thermodynamics very strongly disfavors the formation of a cold condensate that is an order of magnitude cooler than the surrounding medium. As an example, it is far more probable that ice will form spontaneously in boiling water

Also 7.3 GeV. is equal to 7300 MeV, but I do understand their concerns*

*used this to make that calculation http://www.unitjuggler.com/convert-ener ... o-MeV.html

wow this forum hasn't been very active for a while

There are a couple of things that aren't included, so yes it needs an update. Btw funny that the Register says:

"Strangelets have to be possible (right now, they have only been hypothesised)"

If I'm correct than the Higgs was also Hypothesised until discovery.

btw why is this in the off topic section?

I would suggest this one:

"End Of The World
Discussion of the end of the world brought about by ultra high energy colliders."

It has as main topic on the top the LHC safety study.

People often laugh at End of the World scenario's none the less the LHC and RHIC are very unique in the universe regarding luminosity at one specific collision point, and since we have millions of years of research still ahead of us its better to double check what possibly might come into play.

Oh, no need to delete this, perhaps Charms (moderator) can move it, no big deal.

Hiya guys :)

Yeah this place has been sleepy for a while, it is to expected for the time being. However there has been a steady pace thanks to you draph91 and Chelle :)

I will move this now. Sorry I haven't seen it earlier, been getting to go away tomorrow.

Charms.

Draph you can delete a post when you are the OP somewhere there's a checkbox at first post, btw I would suggest to copy/paste your stuff back in here and adjust the tittle perhaps and delete te new one you created, or leave it as it is, do what you want.

Hi Charms have a fun trip!

cheers,
