Forum question: section/thread for LHC at-the-moment status?
Which forum board and thread is the appropriate place to chat about short-term LNC news -- for example, asking if anybody knows more about the current Sector 4 refrigerator shutdown? Each such event doesn't deserve its own thread, but I haven't spotted one yet with a suitable subject.
Thanks much for creating this site! CERN is kind to provide all this to the public, and this portal makes it so much more accessible.

If you don't see a thread for an event like that, make one!mugwort wrote:Which forum board and thread is the appropriate place to chat about short-term LNC news -- for example, asking if anybody knows more about the current Sector 4 refrigerator shutdown? There's the schedules and hiccups thread which I keep updated (but if I miss a schedule update feel free to post one there), but that's not really for discussion. Chris also tends to put up a thread for collisions planned and other such big events.
But hey - you might be the first person to notice the problem - so be the first to report it in a new thread

I think a new pic would be a great idea maybe that one with the smiling guy and his laptop showing collisions he is easy on the eyes anyways thats Chris's job to decide

hahaha....
well the guy with the laptop might already be kinda embarrased about me using his pic..
Gimme some links to some cool pics. We can have 2. One as you come into the portal and one for the initial screen to the right of the links.
I do kinda like the black hole pic as its also artful as well as gnarly science.
The pic would have to cause someone who knows nothing about the LHC to go WoW...
Its our first impression for new people, so it needs to be good and interesting.

I will maintain a thread in the global announcements for discussions of live events.
I will periodically flush this back to the collider forum and rename it with a date range.
Danny252 is correct. You can also post a thread on it as well if you want. But the live discussions I would like to keep in one thread as much as possible.

Agree - you'd have to ask him for permission to use that pic.
Personally I like the black hole simulation pic but if you want some variation, how about ...
http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/public/E ... ts-web.png (that's on Atlas Latest Events)
Or perhaps one of the CMS TV CH4 pics ...
Or this one: http://lblogbook.cern.ch/Shift/091207_0 ... en25mm.jpg (attached to the LHCb logbook)
Personally I'm kind of fond of this one as well: http://hcc.web.cern.ch/hcc/file/field.png
