Not welcome on IRC?

There's been some drama on the irc channel lately, with 'igor' getting banned and some hostile topics. Today we were pretty much all kicked out - I take it that #lhc isn't Xymox's channel and they don't really appreciate us hanging out there?

At any rate, I propose we start #lhcportal instead. I'm in there now if anyone wants to join.

All the lhcportal crew (and maybe some others?) were kicked. Orion was posting some physics info about baryons, fermions and electron volts, then we were all kicked. I don't think it was for anything specific, just the overall tone of us amateurs. like I said I think it's been coming for a while now.

You guys are welcome over on "my" IRC network [I'm one of the staff], GIMPNet (irc.gimp.org, irc.acc.umu.se), if you want to move #lhc over there.

Aye, they've set it to invite only, so no one can access it.

I'll be on irc.gimp.org in future then :)

gimp.org works for me :) It will be nice to have an ircop around that's actually on our side. Has a more 'open source'ish feel than EFNet I suppose.

So you're staff there, do you work on GIMP itself?

No, well, kindof. I'm part of the Academic Computer Club at UmeƄ University, and we do provide some infrastructure for some open source projects, like irc servers and distribution (http://ftp.acc.umu.se hosts both gnome and gimp content, as well as debian, ubuntu, etc). But I've not really been contributing to the GIMP code base.

Oh, if you want to point the webchat thingie or bots at GIMPNet, I'd suggest choosing one server in particular (like irc.acc.umu.se), some of the local irc admins on other servers in GIMPNet like to be notified beforehand of bots and other automated tools, just so that they don't get mistaken for spammers etc. The more general alias irc.gimp.org includes several servers.

gimp.org really seems to be more about open source software projects, almost every channel there is for one. There has been some discussion now about maybe moving to freenode or foonetic. Still hanging on #lhcportal on efnet for now.

Actually, freenode is more strongly free software related, anyone is welcome over at GIMPNet - and in fact there is lots of social or work-internal channels etc there.

maswan has allayed my gimpnet fears. It gets my vote.

Please find a place which is also accessible only by using a browser (actually only IE6 is allowed here), cause I am anot allowed to install anyreal IRC-Client on my office-PC.

Use Mibbit

Server is irc.gimp.org, channel is #lhc

Last I checked mibbit worked fine in IE6
