I want to add a java IRC chat client to the portal so we all can chat...

We have a chat room already but we need a EASY to use web applett.

I was looking at PJIRC... It looks great, but its not easy to configure.. It also seems to have no clear instructions..

I need help...

The server is efnet.cs.hut.fi
The channel is #LHC

I want a almost single click that only asks for a Handle and then away you go chatting..

A self signed cert would be good, but not manditory..

I will need pretty simple instructions so i can pretty much copy paste into HTML and copy files into directories..

Dont have much to offer for your services except knowing how much cool fun you will help to provide for all of us. AND of course a credit for your work on the page that spawns the applett.

p l e a s e :)

If you want to do it, post here so that no one else spends doing it twice :)

Hey Xymox,

I apologize for the delay on this. After some experimentation with PJIRC - i decided that it's crap! A few google searches later, I stumbled across an entirely web-based solution for embedding chat to your website. It is called "Mibbit" I did a few tests, and it is by far the easiest, most customizable webchat solution. I'm not sure if it's Java based, or if that's a problem - but it's definitely easily configurable.

All you need to do is:
- Sign-up at Mibbit.com (free obviously)
- Once you have completed registration and successfully signed in - click "Create Widget", and that brings you to where you'll setup the entire thing, from applet colors, font and font sizes, specific server, chat window options, etc...
- Once that is all set up, you just copy and paste the HTML code to your website, and you're all set. I tested it a few times with a few different settings options, and it works very well. Nice and fast. And it does exactly what you mentioned you want it to do - in terms of the only "user input" required to connect is a nickname. I can't believe this thing isn't more popular to be honest, it's really nice.

I hope this is atleast close to what you were looking for.

Good luck.

All the best,
rand0m
