I hope we see more HD from CERN..

"the ramp has started and is now well beyond two thousand ampers" ... and the display shows 760~785 :D
To me, the explanation given by Mr. Schmidt was the only interesting part of the clip, the rest was just filling.

They just did 2X2 ( 1.1E10 ) and ramped to 3500GeV...

It went perfectly and the beams have exceptionally good lifetimes.

This is exactly the plan for the 30th. So they have tested things and things look good..

We are stuck with ALICE, no way to contact the ALICE ControlRoom. We don't have yet the injection permit because of ALICE. Physics coordinator contacted to unblock the situation.
That was only the last comment from a long story (from the LHCb-eLog):

PM event category: EMERGENCY_DUMP
PM event classification: OPERATOR_SWITCH
I wonder if there's something like regular (non-emergency) dump too. This one looks almost like something bad happened...

looks like they were making sure the emergency stop buttons were wroking ...
Ramping down after deliberate
asynchronous dump
about to try another dump?
Check of asynchronous dump at 3.5 TeV by switching of RF and allowing beam to debunch during 90 s:

Collisions tonight? Maybe at 3.5TeV?

https://lhc-commissioning.web.cern.ch/l ... 9_1700.pdf

It says on the last Page:

02:00 -03:00: Back at 450 GeV–Colliding bunch pattern
Single_2b_1_1_1 with B1 (1, 17851), B2 (1, 8911)-Checking beams

03:00 –04:00 : Ramping to 3.5 TeV

As far as I know they plan to do some 450 GeV collisions but before ramping to 3.5 GeV they're gonna dump and inject non-colliding pattern.

Edit: oh, I see it now (I was referring to older plan). I guess they're getting things ready for the press show then, maybe they'll just keep the beam steered off collision course? There is still some small chance for collisions but I guess experiments are not allowed to be turned on before they set the "stable beams" flag...

So have the 3,5 TeV beams been interacting at any point yet?

No. Tomorrow at about 4:00 they'll get the first chance.

Anyone know if the webcasts will be recorded somewhere? :-| I have to get up and work at 5:30am EST, I can't stay up and watch the 'casts starting at 2:30am EST. :)

My setup is running, three screens for OP VISTARS and one for the webcast (i know many of you have more)

Another attempt to inject beams, one of the cryo lights is turning red from time to time, uhhhh...

So sit back, relax and enjoy guys! The moment we've been waiting for is about to come!

Nice comment from the LHCb eLog:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6393 30-Mar 14:37 LHC Comments More than 1h of stable beams!
No black holes
...yet
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
:angry-steamingears:

I think this must have been appeared on the "LHC Page 1" Vistar too
because the comments in the eLog from "LHC" usually reflects the text in
the lower left corner of Page 1.
But according to the eLog this message was overwritten after 1 minute :D
Has anybody a screen shot of Page 1 with this comment?
