Sounds like bunch trains are key to moving forward now http://cdsweb.cern.ch/journal/CERNBulle ... es/1285857

They're talking of a luminosity in crease of 10-100 times over the next few months !

Also the 48 bunch run broke the world record for stored energy in an accelerator.

Lots of good info on the progress at the LHC at viXra Log blog http://blog.vixra.org/

Here we go, 4.9e12 and ramping- should be a big one!

Next injection to be 1000ns_50b_35_14_35, so closer trains, slightly more bunches, but slightly less collisions

Check out comments in LHC page 1: "getting ready to ramp this baby". Reminds me of an Onion spoof about the Top Gun of airline pilots.

Two minutes after my above post, the comments were updated. Coincidence?

They got 10.115/μb/s in CMS. That is one tenth of the way to their base target luminosity for this year. I think that is what they were getting excited about :shifty:

atlas has recorded just over 200 billion collsions! i know they need alot more than that for new physics but that has to be good for something.

Looks like this last week's operation has doubled the amount of luminosity delviered by the LHC in 2010

Looks like the first step is running 48 bunches in 4x12 bunch trains. An important step forwards.
