2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
They've got a running (possibly constantly updated) schedule going now I believe, linked on the Progress page as "Latest Planning Outline". Copied 24 hours or so of info.
M - Morning Shift (0700-1500)
A - Afternoon Shift (1500-2300)
N - Night Shift (2300-0700)
Date - Day - Shift - Hours Allocated - Operation
9 TUE A 1900-2300 Trial ramp to 1.2 TeV - test Q and orbit feedback
9 TUE N 2300-0700 Measurements at 1.2 TeV (beating etc. - optics development with energy - test rampdown combo
10 WED M 0700-1100 Injection/LBDS checks Losses at injection, TCDQ
10 WED M 1100-1500 MPS - powering failures…
10 WED A 1500-2300 High intensity setup (IQC limits…) High single bunch intensity - emittance blow-up on flat bottom etc, loss maps, 1 hour for RF, 5 e10
10 WED N 2300-0400 Damper setting-up end 04:00
Trial ramp is probably the most interesting, with high intensity testing tomorrow Afternoon. Could make for some interesting watching
Of note is that all 3 shifts on Thursday (following the Damper Setting Up on Weds) are marked in as nQPS reconfig and Cryo downtime.

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
So any ideas of when they will collide at 7 TeV?
Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Same format as above:
12 FRI A 1500-2300 Trial ramp to 1.2 TeV - test Q and orbit feedback
12 FRI N 2300-0700 TOTEM interlock tests (2 hours - no beam). Aperture
13 SA M 0700-1100 AC dipole
13 SA M 1100-1500 Contingency
13 SA A 1500-2300 Beam quality tuning
13 SA N 2300-0700 Aperture
14 SU M 0700-1900 Trial ramp to 1.2 TeV - test Q and orbit feedback - dry ramp to 3.5 TeV (4 sectors)
14 SU A 1900-2300 Injection/LBDS (19:00 - 23:00)
14 SU N 2300-0700 SF
I assume "Contingency" is fallback time in case the ramp runs over or similar - which seems possible, as the ramp has yet to occur at 2100, with only 2 hours left until the supposed end of ramping.
Also, note that Monday and Tuesday are scheduled nQPS work, with no beam activities.

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
17 WE M 0700-1500 nQPS re-parameterization part 2/TECHNICAL STOP / CHECK SPS beam check beam quality from SPS for 5e10 in TL
17 WE A 1500-0000 HWC tests / Operational cycle tests S34 45 78 81 / CHECK SPS beam
17 WE N 0000-0400 Ramp for LBDS tests - no beam. LBDS energy tracking, BETS tolerances and SMP energy distribution -TCDQ
18 THU N 0400-0700 Recovering beam conditions
18 THU M 0700-1100 Orbit feedback
18 THU A 1100-2300 3.5 TeV ramp commissioning - with beam. All coll at nominal inj settings for 1st ramp - BPM IR6 +/- 6 mm - LHC PROBE, Blown up emittance 3.5 um - BQM - bucket number?
18 THU N 2300-1100 SF (beta beat measurements?)
19 FRI M 1100-2300 3.5 TeV ramp commissioning
19 FRI N 2300-1100 2 beam, setup, 4 bunch checks - extraction checks, collimators locked in position and gaps, beam dump, MPS tests
Supposedly 3.5TeV on Thursday, with 4 bunches on Friday (I assume this is 2 per beam) - HWC ongoing at 2000 until "tomorrow", so the schedule seems to be holding fairly well so far.

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Hmm is there still a 3 day stop on monday the 22nd or did the one this week replace that (meaning they are ahead).Danny252 wrote:17 WE M 0700-1500 nQPS re-parameterization part 2/TECHNICAL STOP / CHECK SPS beam check beam quality from SPS for 5e10 in TL

which is?
Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted with large ones either by Albert Einstein.
Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
emmylou,
Full schedule is on "The Portal"; see "LHC", "Progress", "Latest Planning Schedule".
Note a new version is to be posted tomorrow after the 8:30 meeting.

Larry
do you have to download stuff? cause if so the reason i keep asking is my laptop won't let me download anything why cause it's stupid
anyways thanks I get to find out whats going on along the lines lol

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Today's plan:
* Re-establish 450 GeV beams
* Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 450 GeV - on going and will continue (as soon as Pt6 access is complete)
* Ramp at 3.5 TeV
* Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 3.5 TeV
* Protection devices and collimators setting-up at 3.5 TeV (tbc)
* 23:00 - 07:00 : Damper setting-up at 450 GeV
Looks like a 3.5TeV ramp with beam again tonight Then more beam oscilliation tuning with the dampers overnight.

Any idea of what Optic measurements are? What are they doing?
Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Measuring emittance, tunes, betatron oscillation, orbits, chromacity and so on. All of these can be manipulated by the magnets. Find out more about acclerator science here: http://indico.cern.ch/scripts/SSLPdispl ... &nbweeks=7

Or to put it simply, they're learning about the characteristics of the LHC.oxodoes wrote:Measuring emittance, tunes, betatron oscillation, orbits, chromacity and so on. Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Hey, you moderator guys can put topics into the announcement section of the board. This was in that section but I dropped the old one from last year. We should rotate these now and then so they dont get too long..
Well, Danny you have moderator powers, so make this topic a announcement. But you gotta drop it back into normal and start a new one now and then..
Its under quick-mod tools down below.. You Moderators should play with these tools.

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
22 MON M 0700-1100 Access
22 MON M 1100-1900 Recover - Pre-cyle - Ramp to 3.5 TeV + measurements
22 MON A 1900-0100 Protection device and collimator setting-up at 3.5 TeV (beam based alignment after verification of orbit and optics)
22 MON N 0100-0700 Orbit feedback, Calibration of BPM IP 6
It seems that the schedule went out the window already. Beams were still up at 0800 (yet it's listed as "Access" time), before a cryo failure caused an emergency dump at about 0830. Access is until 1200 (1300 for Expts) with the return to beams expected after 1300 - the 1100-1900 slot is therefore likely moved forwards by at least 2 hours, and may/may not be shortened slightly to get back on track for 1900.
Also: I don't get any option to make this topic an announcement, nor is there anywhere I can move it to make it one =/
