Older Events and discussion 3/22/10

Post by Xymox » Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:44 am

I just started a new thread on current events in anticipation of the startup events about to unfold...

The older page is at viewtopic.php?f=4&t=150

Good to start from a clean slate..

Dry runs starting soon.

First beams will be on Thursday next week, the 24th. Thats the current plan... Might slip some.

Low intensity & 450Gev

Slow increase in intensity with a brief period for the experiments to get collisions at 900GeV ( 450+450 )

Then they will slowly ramp to 3.5TeV over a planned 2 weeks but might take 4 weeks to get to 7TeV collisions.

Then after that slow increases in luminosity throughout 2010.

Thats the current plan. That from 2 authoritative sources.

Soooooooo... T-Minus 1 week and counting.

Attention !

Remember how the LHC teams can be ahead of schedule.

Supposedly there is rumor of beams ANY time this week. So keep watching carefully, you know how they like to suprize us..

But the collisions themselves are probably not going to be a surprise, since they want to do a big media event to cover them.

Nope. Just got back from the shop - am I still in time? :romance-hearteyes:

BTW - for me LHC timing is just as inconvenient as sports timing for the Olympics in Vancouver (all the good stuff happens in the middle of the night - N. American Prime Time). I wonder if TV rights have anything to do with it... :happy-jumpyellow:

(it's a conspiracy I tell ya!!)

From Log;

Wednesday 24th February

23:00: nQPS triggered a 50 magnet quench in sector 78 following non-standard sequence of events. Situation to fully understood before proceding - all commissioning of main dipoles on hold overnight.

18:00: Hope to finish off S78 and S81 this evening. Powering tests overnight. Access needed tomorrow plus beam dump tests and full OP checks through evening and overnight. Aim to inject around 8 a.m. Friday morning if things go well.
