COOL links
Another cool link for people waiting
Hi,
I just found this cool link explaining how all the procedures (setup, commisioning, and so on) are developed:
It is a programming language, adapted from a language called pnuts (which looks like Java).
http://icalepcs2009.spring8.or.jp/abstr ... 3_TALK.PDF
I imagine that the operators write ever more sophisticated scripts, and that would explain why more and more often, procedures are treated by them as one step (like rampdown and precycle).
So each time something goes wrong, they figure out what is the cause, modify the script so that they cannot make the same error again.
Hope you like it.

If you want to make sure the LHC has not distroyed the world, someone has created a web site just for that...

This is actually more amusing if you 'view source' and have a look at the underlying code and commentsXymox wrote:If you want to make sure the LHC has not distroyed the world, someone has created a web site just for that...

Re: COOL links
I notice that if you go to LHC page 1, there are some new entries on the pick list in top-left corner
(or they have been there for some time, and I just have not noticed ...)

Re: COOL links
Quite correct, new today I think. LHCf Experiment, LHC CMS Experiment and (I think) LHC Coordination. Order has changed too with LHC Operation being pushed to the end.morgad wrote:I notice that if you go to LHC page 1, there are some new entries on the pick list in top-left corner

The rest of the list looks like it may also have had some changes but I haven't paid very close attention to it in the past.

Nice series of movies
I am not sure if somebody already found these movies, but I like them:

A bit off subject, but still nice reading is this article about the Tunnel Inspection Monorail: http://trshare.triumf.ca/~pac09proc/Pro ... rfp047.pdf

Re: COOL links
Don't know if this counts as cool... a report (of sorts) about the LHC... I suspect there are one or two inaccuracies in there - typical journalists.

Hope this isn't a duplicate, if is pardons.
LHC Programme Coordination web pages
http://lpc.web.cern.ch/lpc/
Which has the very interesting LHC Luminosity Plots
http://lpc.web.cern.ch/lpc/lumiplots.htm
Which shows pretty up to date Integrated Luminosity plots.

Re: COOL links
Rather long but chock full of details about the current future plans (2010 - 2020 - 2030) for Cern and the LHC and injector chain
http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1275119/
Sadly no slides available but an eclectic mix of French, Irish, Italian, American accents.

Re: COOL links
I don't know if the link has been posted yet, but there's a new vistar: http://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/op-webto ... LUMINOSITY
Re: COOL links
Thx for the quick notice. I would have totally missed it otherwise.
Re: COOL links
Thanks for the link, playback was very strange on my machine, the video seemed to be about 15 seconds ahead of the audio, when viewing the flash video, which made following the slides very difficult.Harbles wrote:Rather long but chock full of details about the current future plans (2010 - 2020 - 2030) for Cern and the LHC and injector chain

A problem with my machine, or the video?
