I read this a lot in the logs and tried to get a transition via the web but nothing makes sense. They way it's usually phrased makes me think it could mean "Supervisor" or another word for Expert or Guru.
Thankx again all for the great help!

What is a "Piquet"
Re: What is a "Piquet"
Good question, I dont know...
Re: What is a "Piquet"
Hi jmayes and Xymox,
can only speak for LHCb as I am part of it..
Shift team: in control room, min 2 persons
Subdetector Piquet: specialist for a given subdetector, has to be able to be on-site within 30 minutes after request
Subdetector Expert: reachable 24/7 via phone, can be anywhere
Great website: I collect many machine infos at the VISTARs together with this forum. Keep it up!

Re: What is a "Piquet"
This should clarify it:
LHCb Organisation of Piquet and Shifts: https://edms.cern.ch/file/924718/1/shift.pdf

Re: What is a "Piquet"
LHCb is doing a awesome job. The Live events page is cool. No other experiment has one. Your currently in the lead in providing live event data. Its the #1 request of people here..
Great job !
Glad to have you posting on the forum
I am thinking about having a sub forum for each experiment.

Re: What is a "Piquet"
Piquet is a french term - it means a standby service. For many systems there is a piquet service in place where people take it in turns to be on-call in case of need - breakdowns etc.
This is not usually staffed by the system experts since the piquet service may cover many pieces of equipment in several machines. If the piquet cant' solve the problem himself he would call out the expert.
