LHC is reporting a quench in sector 23. Machine is stopped for access.

Anyone got any further info ? Nothing looksd amiss on the cryo etc so hopefully minor.

Progress page says:

07:30-12:00: Aperture studies continued. Stopped by beam-induced quench.

So possibly managed to smash a beam into something they shouldn't?

Page 1 now says "Start the recovery from access to the machine" so hopefully it's all OK.

Hopefully this was one of Chris's 'Quenchinos" :)

They've only been down 3 hours, so I'd agree it's rather minor. Better safe than sorry though!

The Quenchino seems to have been Beam Induced - they've been playing around with the beam all morning to test the beam cleaning systems. Apparently they'd already lost parts of the beam due to hitting things already, and they finally managed to break something!

No major damage reported anywhere.

I guess they just found the tolerance limit of part of the LHC then !

Seems like they're ready to resume now:

"Access finished - thanks all"
"Precycle in various sectors"

Waiting to see the LHC opening its TED "gates" again moving the status from "dump" to "beam".
