Re: What Religious belief are you?
These are all interesting thoughts, but don't you think Occam's razor would suggest the world we "see" is "real" and not some kind of simulation? Of course our perception of the world is in some way altered by our human form (visible light, size, etc.), but science is there to question parts of the ...

Is there any particular reason for that?mrgumby wrote:I think CERN has a rule that their staff can't participate in chat and forum stuff. So while we may have our suspicions, we shouldn't really even ask anyone. Sort of like the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy in the US military.

Re: What Religious belief are you?
Hmm... There hasn't been observational data, yes, but I personally consider NDE witnesses as enough observational data. nead death experiences are now very well understood and remarkably explained by neuroscientists and neurochemists... If I had more time I could give you many links to studies or p...

Interesting, although they run with doubled event rate, CMS stores 5 times less events than before (10% now, 50% last weekend)... "Better" events I guess?

Re: What Religious belief are you?
I understand your point about the influence of religion, but I don't fully agree when you say "we are slowly drifting away". This could be true for societies, but I think many individuals, whose parents were atheists, who got a non-religious education, are quite free from that kind of influence (not...

Re: What Religious belief are you?
Science is provable. Big mistake! Science proves nothing... It can only disprove! All scientists can do is build up hypothesises, and look how well they match with observation. If they match, we can move on. If they don't match, the hypothesis is wrong or needs to be refined... And we can never be ...

However, I see a 3,5x10^28 luminosity right now in CMS... That's 3 times more than the previous record, isn't it??

Yeah but there's not much on it...
It'd be nice if the guys from cms wrote some kind of explanation page about cms tv... Maybe I could ask at my university (they worked on the tracker...)

Re: What Religious belief are you?
Personnaly I'm a convinced atheist. I think there's simply no "need" for a deity of any kind in this world... Educated humans are (or should) be intelligent enough to be able to solve their problems alone (or with the help of others, of course) or to answer questions like "where do we come from"... ...
