Re: 2012 Events Discussion

I guess the question would be what data would they be after ? Presumably they'd have enough data through planned running to move the 'Higgs' well beyond 5 sigma so what else ? They still don't know the properties of the new particle. Out of five decay channels which apply for higgs at this mass onl...

Re: 5 sigma Higgs !!!

Higgs boson is a boson particle named after Peter Higgs, one of people who introduced the particle into Standard Model. It is a boson, it is not named after Mr. Bose.
Similarly there are W boson or Z boson, not W-Boson or Z-Boson.

Re: Noob

Personally I'd recommend you to try the project's message boards first (T4T and LHC@Home are different projects led by different people). Maybe you'll find your problem already discussed and solved there. And if not, you can always ask directly the people responsible for maintaining the application.

Re: How easy is it to switch between 25ns and 50ns operation

As far as I remember, important factors with (not) going to 25 ns were that it would require long scrubbing runs and long beam commisioning period. While it was relatively certain they can meet the target with 50 ns beams and already prepared parameters, they'd run into much less certain land with 2...

I don't think he's concerned. I think he's enjoying it.

No...
Okay, then you hopefully understand there can be many other events at temperatures in between any two items in the table.

Maybe try looking for your body temperature...

Re: Mental illness

As long as you have the right frame of mind to know what is BS everything is good... It's all nice and tidy as long as you stand on the majority side but try standing on the other side for a while and you'll see they also consider themselves having the right frame of mind and knowing what is BS. Wh...

They do optimize for this, except they don't expect the shortest posible turnaround time but an average one.

Re: Censorship gives me the creeps.

They think they have knowledge but what they actually have is faith, and if you challenge someone's faith with knowledge don't expect them to shake your hand and thank you. In most cases it's one faith against another faith as well. Someone once said, there's nobody in the world able to make a cell...

Re: Censorship gives me the creeps.

Every discussion needs to find its place, I guess. When I come to discuss my doubts about global warming to realclimate.org, my posts also never show up.

According to Mr. Hansen there is no such thing as zero probability. You have just falsified his proof. Even worse, you have completely destroyed his mathematics system.

Re: Stefan Hansen repost for draph91

The question here is not to forbid the hammer, but the speed, power and frequency by which it is handled, one can see the LHC as two badass hammers knocking into each other. It is like driving a car, you can't forbid people driving one, but you can forbid them to drive too fast with the car, becaus...

Re: Stefan Hansen repost for draph91

Why reposting this? That man makes no sense.
Let's put a spin to his proof - what is the chance you destroy the Earthy by hitting a rock with a hammer? According to his logic, the chance is non-zero and therefore hammers should be forbidden.
