Problems will be a daily thing forever with something this size, just jump over and read a few pages of the Tevatron log (Fermilab) and you will see with even a mature machine like that they go through the same thing constantly. At least it's just tripping circuits and not making smoke! I expect it ...

What is a "Piquet"

I read this a lot in the logs and tried to get a transition via the web but nothing makes sense. They way it's usually phrased makes me think it could mean "Supervisor" or another word for Expert or Guru.

I figured it was pretty low voltage, but Alice surprises me too @ 130v and warm.

Logs say Bucket timing is off by 83 and I see beam 2 intensity falling fairly quick, in fact beam 2 started 30e10 higher then beam 1 now is 30e10 lower. Beam 1 is staying the level. I think a dump will be soon.

30,000 AMPS, WOW!

I read in the logs that the CMS magnet was ramped to 15,000 AMPS then on up to 30,000 AMPS! As an electronics engineer I see this as one huge figure. I am hoping someone in the know could tell us what the volts are on that buss so I could get a real picture of how much electricity that one magnet us...

My continuing thought leads me to believe that the beams must be stacked vertically when in the experiments and not colliding as they have to cross before leaving the experiment *but* I was also under the impression that the beam is a series of bursts which would allow them to time things out to dec...

Access Question

I was under the impression that the tunnel must remain locked for access while at Cyro conditions but I see repeated Access discussions in the log. Exactly how close can they get to the cold machine? Do they use suits? I thought that it took weeks before they could enter sector 3-4 after the malfunc...

Most Magnets have 2 tubes for beams to go in both directions simultaneously, My questions is about how the cross over points work and why do I not see 2 tubes going through the experiments too, there must be some bypass system but machine experts say beam travels through the experiments all the time...
