Re: Intensities

Ok the numbers given on page1 are definitly wrong! They are very jumpy and even go up rather often. I don't know a reason (yet).

Re: Infinite series in quantum phyics

Geometry is realy just vector analysis that avoids the word vector so to simplify. All definitons from vector notation also apply to geometry. it doesn't matter if you take the hypotenuse as BC (length 5) or CB (length -5) When you take a ruler to measure the length of BC or CB it will in both cases...

Length is defined as the norm of a vector. This vector can of cause have negative compontens but the length is always non-negative!

Re: Creating "Sparks"

This article is out of date. New measurements have shown that it is only shining from its polar caps and the size had to be corrected making it no longer a candidate for a quark star. See reference: http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0208069

.. and these high energy collisions happen at about 25 km Up in the air, on top of the atmosphere, where it is pretty cold, not a lot of atmospheric pressure, the density of the air (matter) is very low, there is almost no gravity and its on the borderline of the open space. These aren't the same c...

Re: Creating "Sparks"

No, I still don't care about the sun. I am, however, worried about a quantum tunneling metastability event. Go ahead, do collisions in energies higher than cosmic rays. You won't be able to increase your science knowledge as a result, because you'll be eaten by a vacuum bubble in a blink of an eye....

Re: 1.2e13 Intensity Spike!

The intensity chart was messed up yesterday. So I wouldn't trust that reading. If there is something unexpected it's always good to check the logs: https://ab-dep-op-elogbook.web.cern.ch/ ... ogbook.php

Re: Infinite series in quantum phyics

I would like to add a very simple example to Kasuha's argumentation that the validity of mathematical theorems is independent of physics. c²=25 has two solutions: c=5 and c=-5. Now lets take a right triangle with legs of the length 3 and 4. Pythagoras tells us that the length of the hypotenuse c is ...

Re: Vacuum

I guess when the valves are opened for a beam dump, it causes a significant pressure wave in the dump line. There are no valves opened for a dump!! (Otherwise they would need many days of pumping before injecting a new beam.) A vacuum windows is simply a piece of very thin metal-foil that seals the...

firefox has an addon to do this (as with pretty much every thing else too): https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/115
