Re: The Genesis 2.0 Project
Oddly that seems to be dated January 2010 but the article is older than that and has been posted on the forum before now viewtopic.php?f=3&t=164

Re: Shut down
I'd also add that the shutdown is 100% planned. In effect they've taken the brand new LHC out of the garage for a quick trial run. Now it's gone back into the garage for a tune up and some tweaks. Early next year they're going to put their foot down !
Everything is going according to plan.

Yes welcome to everyone. Please join in, it's a bit of quiet period at the moment with the LHC being on winter shutdown, but there's still several of us hanging around the forum.

Hear, hear !
He's asking us *not* to take CERN's reassurances on faith but at the same time seems to be asking us to accept his explanations on the same basis.

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
Well when someone is quoted as saying they want to associate with Osama Bin Laden and acquire nuclear weapons then certain people will take this very seriously (as indeed they should).

Re: LHC Shutdown schedule
I've noticed tha the cryo temperatures seem to have risen after shutdown but then stabilised. Seems it's still on just not at quite such a low temperature.

Re: False Vacuum
Please don't joke about these stuff, because I panic very easily. Life was so much more simple when I didn't know about vacuum bubbles or magnetic monopoles. Now I realized we're just mere humans and an event occurring in space could kill us all and there won't be anything we can do about it. I'm s...

Re: the PC trips of Tuesday I found an interesting entry in the AB-OP Elog LHC PO HC page at tues 15 Dec 23:02 abut the trip being caused by an unexpected large value short duration input from the real time feedback system. So it sounds like it's some thing they will sort out and not defective hard...

Re: Advanced LHC superconducting magnets successfully tested
Whwn this is ready and proven (say 10 years), will this be a shut down LHC for 12 months and replace just some of the magnets job? or is a total rip out and rebuild of everything in the tunnels? Dave I don't know in detail what the plans are but I believe the price is something like 1 - 1.5 billion...

Re: Uncertainty in calculations
I'm curious, why do you think calculus might not work at the sub-atomic level ? It's a mathematical process not a theory or law to understand the physical world.

Re: Advanced LHC superconducting magnets successfully tested
That's an improvement on the isabelle project where they decided to build the collider before the magnets had been developed.
