Re: 2016 operation
Nice link jmc. So far we haven't seen the increased lumi from the BCMS beam but I guess they are talking it slow. If they keep this pace they should get >14 FB by July 15th!

Re: 2016 operation
https://lpc.web.cern.ch/lpc-minutes/2016-06-27.htm Interesting stuff about current and future operations. One thing in particular caught my attention, "Since in the ongoing year there is no possibility to inject trains longer than 144b in the LHC it would be possible to move this AGK towards the end...

Re: What are the current records for LHC fills?
Any news on the SPS beam dump problem? Are they going to try and fix it this year? I haven't seen them mention it at all, all they have said is that it is stopping them from injecting more bunches. Follow up question why is it stopping them from injecting more than 2076 bunches? If there is a proble...

so what happens when they reach 2088 bunches injected.

Re: What are the current records for LHC fills?
I swear i am not crazy, as of yesterday it wasn't included. How are you getting 6.1fb? The overview page shows 5.85fb for Atlas. If you include the current fill it would be ~6.3 fb. Just curious in case you know of a more accurate place for lumi data than the statistics page.

Re: What are the current records for LHC fills?
Does anyone know why they didn't record the integrated luminosity for fill 5024? They are missing about 200pb for Atlas and CMS. It just seems strange they didn't enter it.
Also what an awesome week of running, I hope things continue on this way

pretty sure you are in the wrong place. most of us dont have any direct connection to cern, we are just fans.

Re: news story
I would also add that in p-p and pb-pb collisions they are looking for rare processes. these events take a lot of data to show up. In order to get the amount of data they need they will have to run the LHC for years. So just because the have done Pb-Pb collisions before doesn't mean there isnt more ...

Re: LHC Limericks
I went the the LHC last summer
They said it was shut down, what a bummer!
So I snuck in with glee
Turned on the machine
When the ground started to shake I did a runner

I just saw that, also all sectors are trained to 6.5 tev. Beams should follow soon!

I feel like you are trolling me. I allready answered your question. You just quoted my answer and asked exactly the same question.

Re: 2014 machine commissioning and 2015 start up
short answer yes. medium answer, they are looking for any new physics. be it dark matter, super symmetry, extra dimensions, or something complete unexpected. I wouldn't say they are trying to prove anything. The LHC just collects the data, its up to the physicists to interpret it, and yes i would be...

Re: 2014 machine commissioning and 2015 start up
Thanks for clearing that up pcatom. I assumed taking longer to train ment lower quality, I shoud have known better than to make assumstions without all the data.

Re: 2014 machine commissioning and 2015 start up
here is a link to the last LHC status meeting. https://indico.cern.ch/event/373417/session/1/contribution/14/material/slides/ I couldn't find a link the webcast, but in it they talked about how some of the magnets were of lower quality. Cern got their magnets from 3 different vendors if i understood...
