Re: Hello

Well, the forum isn't very active lately, but this will change soon, I hope.
They are starting the whole accelerator chain this year.

Re: FCC CDR released

Well, the soil composition isn't really as homogenous as needed, but well, it's something you can't really avoid: where are you going to find such a huge circle with the same ground composition for all of the circuit? Yes, and within a convenient distance of a multi TeV collider to start it up, of ...

Found out today that one of our members died in May, His nic on here was Chriwi.
That's pretty sad... Strange feeling to lose someone who you know in a way, but still don't know much about.

LHC Timing system

I was reading an old document about the design of the LHC, and found it quite interesting: http://www.hephy.at/project/cms/trigger/globalTrigger/trans/MEDIEN/Publications/CMSdetector_JINST/Info_CMS_JINST/TTC-Taylor_LECC02.pdf This article, even though it contains a lot of technical details, was abso...

Re: AWAKE successfully accelerates electrons using plasma wakefield acceleration

Now that is a quick way to accelerate an electron. Does any of you know if this trick also works for protons?
I guess the hard part is to make a plasma wave of something heavy enough to drive them...

Quite cool stuff they're doing there.
I am especially impressed by the record breaking 100 kA transmission lines.
That's some serious current not to be messed with.

Suggestion for main topic: HL-LHC

Hi, Although there are not many people on this forum talking about this, it may be worth adding a new main topic for the HL-LHC. (See https://home.cern/topics/high-luminosity-lhc .) Now the first steps are being taken, there is a lot of stuff going on there. This would give room to discuss for examp...

Aha, so that causes unexpected dumps!
Looks a lot more plausible than birds dropping sandwiches in ventilation ducts https://cds.cern.ch/journal/CERNBulleti ... es/1221806 or a hump https://vixra.wordpress.com/2010/07/16/ ... erference/.

The accelerator complex from the viewpoint of a proton

Just a thought... If you are a proton flying through the accelerator complex, you see the world around you malformed by Lorentz contraction. This gives some interesting relativistic weirdness. Also, the time perception of the proton changes. (The computations below are based on the fact that a proto...

Welcome to the club. You are welcome, even though current it is a bit silent (too silent, to my liking).
It is always good to have some insiders to get the juicy details :-)

Thanks for the site, maalpu.
I tried to contact you via that forum, but I couldn't get in since I don't know the answer to the obscure question.
Anyway, what I wanted to add: XRP = Roman Pots (the TOTEM devices).
