Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Do they have an IRC channel, or TWITTER, or MSN or anything that would allow us to be closer to the action?

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Now they are ramping down! There does not appear to be anything left! Did they dump the particles, or try to collide them, or lost them? The status message never mentioned anything! I wish that they would give us more info, or some sound!

The whole cycle took about 4 hours.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Now this is D day. They have reached 3.5 TEV for one hour now. The "1" display reads "3526 GEV" and the status message says: "B1 and B2 circulating / optics measurements at 3.5 TEV". Very strange. "1" display shows: "I(B1) = 0" and "I(B2)=0" but obviously they have a beam in there, otherwise they wo...

Internal / External clocks

I saw a question regarding the "clocks" which I think I can provide some information. This is more than just a 'clock': The passage time of the bunches actually depends upon many parameters like proton energy, ring diameter, etc. It is therefore easier to let the protons spin at their own rate and t...

Re: What does ... mean?

Let's stay focussed to the LHC1 page accronims: ================================================= TDI P2 GAPS / mm and TDI P8 GAPS / mm I think are some mecanical slits that are located at point 2 and 8. 19.9 means that they are fully open! 1 - Why would they close those slits? To limit the beam cur...

Re: About me

Hi,
I am interested by all the technical aspects of this project. I don't give a dam about the big bang or the aliens, but would like to know for example how they synchronize the beams, do the transverse/longitudinal cooling, etc.

Long live the LHCPORTAL
