Re: Rubber Duckies

Atlas does mechandising.

CMS has posters.

I could only find one item on the CERN gift shop.

Re: Videos on physics and particle physics from CERN

That's actually the schedule for CERN Summer School 2008. Physics students form around the world come to Cern to study for a few weeks most are video taped and have PDF or PPt slides. Here is the 2007 Summer school Schedule http://indico.cern.ch/tools/SSLPdisplay.py?stdate=2007-07-02&nbweeks=7 And t...

Re: *** First science results ***

This presumes there is a Higgs to find. If there is, the time to discovery really depends on the mass of the Higgs. Its mass directly determines what particles it decays to, and that determines how hard it is to see. I.e. in some mass regions it goes to 2 photons (hard), whereas in others it goes t...

Re: How to save multi pane vistar screen?

PS There is this site; http://meltronx.com/lhclite/index.html Which has all the vistars on the page at once and you can click on any of them to go fullscreen. But I'd like the setup described above as most of the other screens are for other experiments or won't be used till they collide ions. He als...

How to save multi pane vistar screen?

Do I have to write some html code or is there a way to save a multi screen set up with different url's running in each. For example I like to watch 5 pages of the Ops Vistar on the screen at once, Page one and operations across the top then across the bottom PSB , CPS and SPS_Page1. So i open 5 inst...

Re: *** COLLISION ALERT ***

The collisions they hope to see in a few hours are to help calibrate the detectors. They will be seeing events that have been studied for over 50 years now in machines like the PS & SPS, Tevatron etc. So by observing relatively few, relatively low energy events they will be able to confirm that the ...

Re: *** First science results ***

I Used to think that all they need to do was run the sucker for a while pick out a few events and say yay I found it, write the paper and pick up the Nobel. There is a lot more to it than that. They need to collect many many ^ many events to collect enough statistical data to 'prove' that they are s...

I notice that if I try to login to the Alice Elog via the LHCportal link I get a red screen saying unsecure content an have no access. But If I copy the link to a new tab so I'm not inside the LHCportal anymore I get a dangerous site not secure certificate error, if I ignore that and login it works ...
