Minor apology, I've been a bit dicky all night. I blame annoying people.
But it still holds that the paper doesn't seem to hold up.

Re: Review of Black Hole Risks
First off, his first (and most often used) source states that BH creation is "extremely hypothetical scenario" in the opening paragraph. He makes comments about millions of black holes being created by White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars. This raises the question of "why do we see White Dwarfs if they ma...

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
Today's plan: * Re-establish 450 GeV beams * Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 450 GeV - on going and will continue (as soon as Pt6 access is complete) * Ramp at 3.5 TeV * Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 3.5 TeV * Protection devices and collimators setting-u...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **
No. As said before, the bunches weren't synchronised, and also the beams are deflected in the IPs so that they aren't actually crossing paths until official collisions/Physics runsWallmott wrote:Since both beams were running, does that mean that they collided at any point?

Re: 3.5 TeV accelleration ! WORLD RECORD !
They plan first collisions for 30th press conference or whatever are they planning to hold that day. Technically speaking, half-energy (1.75 TeV) collisions are already happening (with residual particles in beam pipe, with beam pipe itself and in dump), yet another world record. It just doesn't hap...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **
Funny thing is that the ALICE site is still showing the Page 1 status notes - maybe these are sent through a different system than the VISTARs?

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **
I wonder if it's "Scheduled F..."? Going by how all the SFs are a fair way in the future and are a whole shift, it might be scheduled slack time of some sort.

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
They've got a running (possibly constantly updated) schedule going now I believe, linked on the Progress page as "Latest Planning Outline". Copied 24 hours or so of info. M - Morning Shift (0700-1500) A - Afternoon Shift (1500-2300) N - Night Shift (2300-0700) Date - Day - Shift - Hours Allocated - ...

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems
No schedules in the 0830 due to a problem with an Emergency Stop Switch last night (which led to cryo problems), and the 1700 hasn't appeared yet!
