Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Just checked in, looks like 3+ hours of both beams at 3.5TeV and holding! Looking good for a big event! (but no detectors are switched on yet)

Re: Proton vs Graphite

So if I can put a spin on this (hopefully correct), the graphite is not a hard wall to the protons but more like a net that expands as the protons shoot into it. The resulting kinetic energy would be much lower then a true non moving wall and way less then proton-proton head on as they are the same ...

Tx for the update

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Just checking back in, looks like one beam has been at 3.5TeV for over 2 hours! That's some pretty good stamina. They say the op page is frozen so I guess the 12+ hours of 3.5TeV beam time it shows is not correct? Anyone have a current, correct report on how long it has actually been going? Can't wa...

1.2e13 Intensity Spike!

Anyone else noticed this very large spike in the history today? (op page) By far it's the highest they have wound out the machine to date. I wonder if it was intended as it is so short?

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Got the answer sooner then expected, from p1

"An AUG triggered in point 7 due to bad contact. Recovering LHC from the power cut. No beam before 9h00"

Anyone know what an "AUG" is? (it's not on the posted list yet)

So the news is good!!!!

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Well the Cyro status board is all green again so it looks like it was not a major event (thank goodness!) It's late here in the states so I am signing off until morning, should know by then the final resolve. :)

I only hope this translates to just electrical damage and not physical magnet damage. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.
