Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems

emmylou,

Full schedule is on "The Portal"; see "LHC", "Progress", "Latest Planning Schedule".

Note a new version is to be posted tomorrow after the 8:30 meeting.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

The "Schedule" shows the first collisions at 450 GeV on Thurs the 18th during the "night" shift. The "night" shift is defined as 23:00 thru 07:00 which therefore is mostly on the 19th.

The have been keeping very close to the schedule even with the surprises.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

The reporting via LHCPortal and MELTRONX are both frozen at the exact same times. Viewing the LHC OP logs shows this is the exact point when the "ramp-up" reached 1.18 TeV. This was followed by some cryo problems and some "trips" during the following "ramp-down." From what I can interpret it is a se...

Jmayes,

Where is the access to the OP LOG? I can find several but not that one.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

While an intensity of 1E10 is progress, we need to see a "TRUE" for both the "Stable Beams" flag and "moveable devices allowed in" (such as LHCb VELO). Only then do I suspect that collisions might be close.

From the notes under the "progress" option, it is probably a minimum of a few days.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Current "Cryo Status" page shows Sector 23 in BLUE; I understand the RED and Green but does anyone know what the BLUE might indicate?

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems

TED is "Beam Absorber for Injection (External)" and is part of the protection system. Its mirror-image counterpart is TDI which represents "Beam Absorber for Injection (Internal).

Not all of their acronyms have a direct 'translation.'

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Also, from midnight to noon the LHC will be down for something called "cryo intervention." Sounds like a polite and politically correct way of saying "we need to go in and hit something with a big hammer." Historical Note: Inthe early days of V2 rocket testing at White Sands, USA (circa 1948), this ...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

For those of you that have not been following "Page 1" events, for the first time this year we had two beams (red and blue) circulating. Neither beam was stable but that will be the next step.

We are getting closer to collisions ...
