"18kV Drop at Point 1, 6 LHC Sectors Tripped".
Page 1 suggests 3 hours to fix, more info coming soon. Sounds like a superconductor problem of some sort

Got a JCB we can borrow? It's getting quite hard to dig further with just these spadesheladepela wrote:Great stuff Danny, Xymox, been digging around a bit more !!
Hopefully we may be getting information on some of the other VISTARs - such as the SPS and LINAC screens.

Re: What do the displays mean ?
It helps if I turn "case sensitive" off when searching - no wonder FF couldn't find "bran" on the acronyms sheet...Tim Bergel wrote:I found BRAN in the acronyms list:

Re: *** Breaking news ***
Page1 format has also changed: the beamTV images are not showing now and the whole mid-page area is different ( blank for now). I also noticed the "Page 1" and "LHC Operations" " Beam Current"(I) values were very different since yesterday. The "LHC Operations" I values seemed to match the Intensity...

Daily Schedules and Hiccups
I'll keep this topic updated with the Daily Schedules that can be found in LHCb's Logbook. Maybe mention the odd hiccup too if it affects schedules Tuesday 1st: -- Comments: Collisions planned this week (for Experiments to play around with?) at 450GeV per beam. Schedule is going as planned, they're ...

Re: *** Breaking news ***
Thanks for the info, LHC_Insider - certainly given me a better understanding of some parts of the machine.
Currently the machine is set to 7.864 TeV - I don't know if the plan is to ramp a beam up to this energy today?

Re: What do the displays mean ?
Status Op has changed today! First off the background graphs have been changed to logarithmic scales - which has lead to them making much more sense and being more readable. Also, the luminosity reading on the top graph and integrated luminosity reading have both been replaced with BRAN Count. I bel...

Re: Schedule
These gluons can split to give a quark and an antiquark, which then recombine to give the original gluon again; while it is on its travels. Similar to Photons and Pair Production? Well, there's something I learnt today (along with the rest of your post, really!). Though surely you get some antiquar...

Re: LHC page 1 Moveable devices
It also includes LHCb's VELO - but thanks for working out what "Roman Pots" meant!
Both detectors are liable to be damaged if used on anything but a stable beam.

How do I find out what's going on?
Over the last week I've worked out quite reliably how to check on what the LHC is up to. This isn't a guide to deciphering displays - it's a guide to which ones to check to get an idea of what's happening right now without having to ask. Check out the growing help pages and "What do the displays mea...

Re: Portal Link Changes 11/27/09
Possibly we could have a "What's This?" link somewhere on your frames around the pages - so on Page 1, it links to a page giving details for Page 1; on Op Status, it links to a page on that. Would be an idea to have a central page linking to all these help pages instead/as well. But we do need to tr...
