Re: Current Events Discussion

As far as I know they plan to do some 450 GeV collisions but before ramping to 3.5 GeV they're gonna dump and inject non-colliding pattern. Edit: oh, I see it now (I was referring to older plan). I guess they're getting things ready for the press show then, maybe they'll just keep the beam steered ...

Re: Anti LHC, already proven wrong?

but the reasons for that are not because the anti LHC people's arguments are very speculative. The Anti LHC peoples arguments not very speculative? Dude, they are only very very speculative. If you have ever read and understood the papers where they are quoteing from you will see that they just che...

Anti LHC, already proven wrong?

Even though the science community agrees that the lhc will cause no danger and that there are no real theories that says it will some anti lhc people will still say, how can you be sure? Well have not they already been proven wrong? Let me explain what i mean. Walter L Wagner stared it all back in 2...

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems

They are actually saying it might happen. "The LHC is not a turnkey machine," said CERN director general Rolf-Dieter Heuer. "The machine is working well, but we're still very much in a commissioning phase and we have to recognize that the first attempt to collide is precisely that. It may take hour...

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems

Does anyone know if the beams have interacted with each other at anytime yet?

It would be embaresing if they did it the first time on the 30th and it did not work.

Oh sorry press, we got cryo problems, come back in 8 hours.

Have the beams crossed path yet? but without the detectors on?

Re: 2010 Briefings, Schedules and Problems

Today's plan: * Re-establish 450 GeV beams * Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 450 GeV - on going and will continue (as soon as Pt6 access is complete) * Ramp at 3.5 TeV * Measure and correct the optics and beam parameters at 3.5 TeV * Protection devices and collimators setting-...

Re: Review of Black Hole Risks

But can you address the specific claims he makes? I remember that they had a long discussion with him on the randi.org forums a long time ago. Basically it is all wrong and he does not know what he is talking about, nor does he understand physics or anything about it. All he have is fear and he is ...

Re: Review of Black Hole Risks

This article seems very accurate and fact based. You can just skip to the conclusions section to get the general idea, because the paper is very long. Is there any way to disprove it, or is the author right in his conclusions and the catastrophic implications to the LHC? I'm getting really scared. ...

Re: 3.5 TeV accelleration ! WORLD RECORD !

Each beam is 3.5 TeV, so total collision would be 7 TeV (with half being 3.5, not 1.75) - full power is 7 TeV and 14 TeV respectively. Oops ~ my bad. It's even better than I thought then, dump is producing two times better collisions than experiments had in december. Im getting confused now. Have t...

Re: 3.5 TeV accelleration ! WORLD RECORD !

They plan first collisions for 30th press conference or whatever are they planning to hold that day. Technically speaking, half-energy (1.75 TeV) collisions are already happening (with residual particles in beam pipe, with beam pipe itself and in dump), yet another world record. It just doesn't hap...

We can now hope for a few "accidental" collisions, but maybe they will delay the news for a good publicity moment.

So since both beams were ramped up to 3,5 TeV at the same time, have the beams technically collided?

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Since both beams were running, does that mean that they collided at any point?
