The displays are pretty self-explanatory ones you know the basic acclearator science. http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1017689/fi ... 07-014.pdf is an awesome reference to start with.
Feel free to ask about any specific display.

Re: A few questions on blow up when filling and ramping
It rips out electrons, which can lead to the much discussed e-cloud, if the material is not properly conditioned.jmc2000 wrote:How does the positively charged beam current affect the pipe?

Re: New CMS event display
My website ( http://cern-watcher.org ) contains a number of scripts designed to make the large number of status displays more accessible. The exact page you are looking for is: http://cern-watcher.org/RSDs/cms1.html

Re: The CERN safety study
I mean, we know that the LHC accelerates lead nuclei almost to the speed of light, and at the same time CERN says the current collision record is 7 TeV. The 7 TeV is for protons!! So how can it be that with the same speed of lead nuclei scientists want to reach the next goal of 14 TeV collision ene...

Translating lhc-facts.ch
Hi everyone http://www.lhc-facts.ch is one of the best non CERN sites summarizing the project. Up to now it has only been available in German but the site owner (who is known as Celladoor here on the forum) has shown interested to have the site translated to English. If you are fluent in both Englis...

Re: Introducing LSIS- The LHC status information service
Everyone who uses the LHC announcer as well as LSIS will get a lot of duplicate announcements. In order to avoid this a new LSIS config file will be made available soon.

The LHC announcer
Good news everyone! As of today the offical LHC Announcer is publicly available at: http://cern.ch/announcer This is the same system that is in use in the CCC and that we have first heard of during the 3.5 TeV media event. It gives us a lot of previously unavailable informations (collimator movement...

Re: Introducing LSIS- The LHC status information service
After many weeks working on the project a new version can now be found at http://cern-watcher.org/LSIS. It features a completely new voice and 286 predefined events.
I hope u like it

Re: Atlas Live Events not showing current event when available ?
During the last fill (last night) CMS was showing live events stat but Do you mean the CMSTV ( http://cmsdoc.cern.ch/cmscc/cmstv/cmstv.jsp?channel=4&frames=yes ), or do you actually know a site that shows live CMS events?? Because this would be new to all of us.... ATLAS (ATLAS http://atlantis.cern...

Re: Current Events Discussion
Wow this has been one remarkable day. Since the technical stop the startup seemed to proceed rather slowly, but today we got perfect multibunch (4 bunch) injections for both beams. In total 24 nominal bunches were injected into each beam giving a record intensity of about 2.2E12. The beam were dumpe...

Re: Let's go hump hunting!
OMG I knew that they have mobile phone coverage in the tunnel. But I didnt know they wouldnt switch of the transmitters during operation (No one is in the tunnel, so why would they need mobile phone coverage??). There are going to be hump studies at 450 GeV today with the GSM being switched off and ...
