Advanced LHC superconducting magnets successfully tested
Even though the LHC has just started its journey with the successful commissioning we've all witnessed, they're already thinking a few steps ahead. I know that higher collision energies is what really thrills the majority of us, avid LHC enthusiasts. Nevertheless, physicists working at the main LHC ...

Re: Really enjoying the view...
Welcome to the forum! I believe the beauty of this site is precisely its ability to be so attractive both to physics gurus and to interested laypeople. I am probably someway between those two. I've studied quite a lot of physics when I was learning electrical engineering and computer science, howeve...

Oh and just as the beams were dumped I got this last one with funny vertical tracks:

Re: ** current events and discussion **
To my surprise today I woke up with ongoing stable collisions at a beam intensity of approximately 4e+10. The fill is now completing 4 hours and I've been glued to the LHCb experiment live display.
Let me share with you some of the most interesting snapshots I took throughout the morning:

Re: last 7 days web stats
Nice stats! Lots of valuable info there. Didn't know the daily visitors were already over the 4K mark! Congratulations. Also noticed how much more popular the portal is as compared with the forum, which highlights all the hard work done there. Many people are interested in the LHC and though there's...

Re: ** current events and discussion **
They're currently only using 4 bunches per beam. I believe 2,808 bunches is their target.

Re: I love this video
I love it too, for its simplicity.
A few months ago I've even used it in my blog when trying to post a simple overview about quantum physics:

These guys lose no time.Stephen wrote:Wow, at this rate they'll reach the full 14 TeV in less than a year.
Anyway I believe after setting a new world record at 2.36 TeV they will now focus on ramping up the intensity rather than the energy.

Re: Daily Schedules and Hiccups
There's a cryogenics red alert for S56 (CS ITR5). :( Yes I saw that, looks OK now. This is odd, different pages are showing different things. Cryo Page 1 shows red, HCC field page shows yellow and the Cryo Main Page for sector 56 shows green ! Yeah, I saw those discrepancies too. I believe Cryo Pag...
